Davenport Public Library’s Off-Beat Independent (OBI) film series goes “classic” in March for a showing of the 1966 independent drama, A Man for All Seasons, starring Robert Shaw, Vanessa Redgrave, and Paul Scofield. This Oscar-winning film will be shown on Wednesday, March 18, at 6:00 pm, at the Fairmount Street Library (3000 N. Fairmount Street).
A Man for All Seasons is the story of Thomas More, who stood up to King Henry VIII when the King rejected the Roman Catholic Church to obtain a divorce and remarriage. Based on Robert Bolt’s successful play, this movie was almost never made because it was considered a “period piece about a moral issue, without even a love story.” Although Columbia pictures allowed director Fred Zinnemann to make the film, they didn’t expect it to win 6 Oscars. Run time: 120 minutes.
