Over 300 people from as far away as Chicago, IL, Milwauke, WI and St.Paul, MN filled the meeting rooms, hallway, and lobby of the Davenport Public Library – Fairmount Street on Tuesday to enjoy the toe tapping music of Bix Beiderbecke. Featuring talented jazz musicians from around the Midwest, the Bix All Star Band brought Bix’s music back to life. Bix was a leading Jazz Cornetist from the 1920′s whos music included such greats as “Davenport Blues,” “Mississippi Mud,” and the ever popular “Georgia On My Mind.” Bix Beiderbecke, who was born in Davenport, IA on March 10, 1903, is not only honored on or around his birthday every year, but he is also honored every summer at the Bix Beirderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival. The Bix Fest features 20,000 runners from around the world for the Bix Road Race and tens of thousands of visitors from around the world to the festival itself. The Festival is kicked-off every year on the front steps of the Davenport Public Library – Main Street at the Bix Porch Party and is held the last weekend in July.
