Go Healthy Series Features Martial Arts
Our next workshop in the “Go Healthy” kid’s series is presented by Nick Tarpein’s Martial Arts and will be held on Saturday, January 17 at 2:00 P.M. Join us at the Fairmount Street Library (3000 N. Fairmount Street) as the program, “Kickin’ Kids” will teach children how to achieve strength through traditional karate moves.
In an effort to raise awareness of the growing rate of childhood obesity in America, and to help curtail the problem, the Davenport Public Library has partnered with the American Heart Association for a series of “Go Healthy” workshops, teaching kids about living healthy. The Library will be offering health and fitness-related workshops every third Saturday of the month, now through April, at 2:00 pm, at the Fairmount Street Library. Each workshop will highlight a different activity, while featuring special guests from the community. Upcoming workshops include: ballet and jazzercise.

Greetings from the FRIENDS Book Store!
The FRIENDS Book Store continues to be a huge success. Through the dedicated efforts of more than 60 volunteers, the store has raised approximately $18,000 during 2008. All proceeds benefit the library with much needed materials and free programming.
Starting in January, we will have new winter hours for the months of January, February, and March – Tuesdays and Wednesdays only. New hours will be 1 pm – 5 pm. This will allow our workers to get home a little earlier during the bad weather months. Our other business hours remain the same.
We are sorry, we can no longer handle book requests, due to over demand. The FRIENDS are looking for anyone interested in helping with our online book sales. Items need to be listed at the Main Street Library and monitored for sales. This job can be done at your convenience. If you are interested in this opportunity, or would like to learn more about it, please contact Carol Wagner at 563-359-5285 or visit the Friends online at www.friendsofdavenportlibrary.org.
We hope you’re having a great New Year!
