New Coffee Shop for Fairmount Street Library

New Coffee Shop for Fairmount Street Library

coffee-cup1The Davenport Public Library is pleased to announce a brand new coffee shop opening at its Fairmount Street location. “Cams Coffee Shop” is the new coffee vendor at the library, bringing patrons and residents on the west side of Davenport the highly desirable Seattle’s Best Coffee. Also featured at the shop will be fresh-made cinnamon rolls and cookies, Italian sodas, and other delicious drinks. The shop will open daily, Monday through Saturday, at 7 a.m., for the morning commute. It will keep the same closing hours as the library. For a list of library hours, visit www.davenportlibrary.com.

Scott and Kathy Cameron, the owners of Cams, are very familiar with what it takes to run a successful shop. They currently operate the Starbuck’s franchise located at the St. Ambrose University Book Store.

LaWanda Roudebush, library director, is thrilled with the chosen lessee. “Having a strong brand name like Seattle’s Best Coffee, early commuter hours, and excellent pastries will really be a draw to our already booming library.”

The Camerons were chosen as the new vendors by the Library Board of Directors at their December board meeting.

Cams Coffee Shop will open during the first week of January, with a special grand opening in the works for later in the month. For more information, please contact LaWanda Roudebush at 563-326-7832.

Another forecast of winter weather! What should you do to prepare?

Another forecast of winter weather! What should you do to prepare?

winter1This year it seems like winter should have started a couple of weeks earlier. With snow and ice on the ground, temperatures and wind chills in the negative numbers, and more snow and cold weather on its way, what should you do to prepare for all of the winter weather we are receiving? Here are a couple of websites that should be helpful.

Visit the City of Davenport’s Winter Guide to find out city snow routes, the city sidewalk clearing policy, winter weather forecast for Davenport, Iowa travel information and much more.  Visit the American Red Cross Winter Storm Guide for information on how to prepare for winter weather, from a disaster supply kit to preventing and thawing frozen pipes to what to do if you get stuck in the snow.

Another Busy Saturday @ Your Davenport Public Library!

Another Busy Saturday @ Your Davenport Public Library!

It’s going to be another busy day at the Davenport Public Library this Saturday.  Whether you still need to tell Santa what you want for Christmas or you need a little “Go Healthy” fix, the Davenport Public Library has them both.

This Saturday, December 20 you can visit Santa and his awesome Santamobile at the Main Street Library (321 Main Street) from 10:00 – 12:00 and then Santa needs to re-fuel before he returns to the library from                  1:30 – 2:30.  Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to have your picture taken with Santa and receive a candy cane, book, and goodie-bag all for free.  Make sure you arrive early so that you can see Santa roll up in his special Santamobile.

If you attend the morning session with Santa, you will have plenty of time to grab a healthy bite for lunch before you attend the “Go Healthy” workshop at the Fairmount Street Library (3000 N. Fairmount Street) at 2:00 P.M.  This month’s program will feature John Morrow, of Morrow’s Academy of Martial Arts.  Mr. Morrow will present “Karate Kids,” a demonstration teaching children the power of martial arts, mental and physical awareness, and tips for continuing an active, healthy lifestyle.  This program is part of the “Go Healthy” workshop series presented by the Davenport Public Library.  To learn more about this series or any of the programs offered by the Davenport Public Library, visit our website at www.davenportlibrary.com and go to “Programs & Publicity” or call us at (563) 326-7832.
