OBI – The Way I Spent the End of the World!

Join the Davenport Public Library – Fairmount Street (3000 N. Fairmount Street) on the third Wednesday of every month at 6:00 p.m. Sit back and enjoy hand-picked award-winning foreign and domestic independent movies while eating some delicious popcorn. Following the movie there will be a short discussion for anyone that would like to participate. The November Off-Beat Independent film is The Way I Spent the End of the World. The setting is Bucharest 1989, the last year of Ceausescu’s dictatorship. Eva lives with her parents and her 7 year-old brother Lalalilu. One day at school, Eva and her boyfriend accidentally break a bust of Ceausescu. They are forced to confess their crime before a disciplinary committee and Eva is expelled from school and transferred to a reformatory establishment. Come see how the ending of this movie changes the world.

The Way I Spent the End of the World will be shown on Wednesday, November 19 at 6:00 p.m.

Kid Yoga at DPL

As part of our “Go Healthy” workshop series, the Davenport Public Library will be offering Yoga for kids.  On Saturday, November 15 at 2:00 PM, join us at the Davenport Public Library, Fairmount Street (3000 N. Fairmount Street) for a fun and educational experience.  Presented by instructors from the Davenport School of Yoga, kids will learn the value of yoga, how to do yoga positions, and how to continue working-out muscles for continued health benefits.  Other upcoming workshops include: martial arts and karate; ballet, and jazzercise.  Angela Campbell, PR/Programming Coordinator for the Davenport Public Library, states, “The Davenport Public Library is committed to accomplishing its mission of educating, informing, enriching, and entertaining the public.  The ‘Go Healthy’ series is just another way the Library can have a positive influence model on the community, while building great partnerships with local organizations.”  Additionally, the Library will also provide information to caregivers at each program about Library resources that can help kids get active.

Flu and Pneumonia Shots Available at Fairmount!

Genesis VNA will be providing flu and pneumonia shots at the Fairmount Street Library on Friday, November 7, from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. They will be back on Monday, November 24, from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Flu shots will cost $37, and pneumonia shots for $40 (cash or check). There is no cost for those with Medicare Part B coverage.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, those at highest risk include: People 65 years and older; Individuals living in a nursing home or other chronic-care facility; Those afflicted with respiratory, heart disease or other chronic diseases, including children; Children and teens who are on long-term aspirin therapy; Pregnant women who will be in the second or third trimester during the flu season; Employees at medical facilities and other health-care workers.  Are you at high risk?
