Teens can celebrate “Teen Read Week” at the Figge Art Museum on Saturday, October 18, at the first-ever “Teen Anime Festival & Manga Art Show.” Quad City area libraries and the Figge Art Museum have teamed up to offer an afternoon of anime and manga in numerous formats to provide a day of fun and inspiration for area teens.  At 12:00, view the submitted artwork in the “Teen Manga Art Contest.” Libraries have been collecting entries since September and now it’s time for judging.  Also at noon, teens can talk to anime vendors, and enhance their cosplay outfits by using the face painting and materials station to prepare for the “Cosplay Fashion Show.”  Other events set up throughout the day include:
 12:00 – 1:00 Comic Swap Station
1:00 – 1:40 Graphic Novel Workshop
1:45 – 2:00 Cosplay Fashion Show
2:00 – 4:15 Screening of the anime movie, Spirited Away
4:15 – 4:30 Awards ceremony for the Teen Manga Art Contest and the Cosplay Fashion Show

Mojos will be providing tea service for all attendees, with other snacks available compliments of area libraries.  All teens and tweens in grades 5th through 12th are invited to attend this event.  Admission is just $5 for the whole day.  Those that wish to participate in the Graphic Novel Workshop are asked to bring a sketchbook and pencil.  For more information about this event, contact Christie at Davenport Public Library: 563-326-7893; Sarah at Scott County Library System: 563-285-4794; or John at Bettendorf Public Library: 563-344-4188.  Read more online at
