This event was created to honor grandparents during the weekend of Grandparent’s Day, which is always the first Sunday after Labor Day. Grandparent’s Day was created for three purposes: to honor grandparents; to give grandparents the opportunity to love their children’s children; and to help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer, making this the perfect time to enhance communication between generations. The history presented at this intergenerational, hands-on program begins with the Civil War-era and ends with modern technology. Not only will grandparents teach children about the past, but children can teach their elders about the future with a lesson in gaming. This completely free event also highlights the mission of the Davenport Public Library – to connect a diverse community to resources that inform, enrich, educate and entertain. Being a grandparent is not required – everyone is invited to attend! For more information, contact the PR Office at 563-328-6833.
