If you like your food to get to you fast, don’t spend time back in colonial America. Back then, if you wanted to cook food or heat up anything, you first needed a fire. If you didn’t have one already going, you would use a hot coal from last night’s fire, or borrow one from a neighbor. If all else failed, you would use flint to try and get a spark. No matches, no electricity, no microwaves…just slow cooking.
