Here’s a destination that is truly back from the dead. For the past 30 million years, the Wollemi pine tree has been extinct. Until 1994, that is. That’s when 23 of them were found in Blue Mountains, Australia. The Blue Mountains got their name because 0f another species of tree in the area, the eucalyptus. The very oily eucalyptus seems blue when light hits the oil on its leaves. Scientists are carefully guarding the only 23 Wollemi pine trees left in the Blue Mountains, in hopes that they will find the secret to making more of them in the future.
