Lean just a little to the left….. Italy’s famous Leaning Tower of Pisa used to lean more each year than it did in 1319 when it was finished. The architects discovered that the ground underneath the Tower wasn’t solid like they thought. Instead, it was wet clay, causing the building to sink and tilt. In the 1990s engineers stopped further tilting by putting weights on the bottom of the tower. Today, visitors can climb the 294 steps to the tilted top, if they aren’t afraid to lean a little.
