As you may have seen in the Quad City Times, the FRIENDS of Davenport Public Library have been successful in raising the funds needed to match the challenge grants received from the Bechtel Trust and the Vision Iowa CAT grant. We’re grateful to every donor, large and small, that has contributed to our Branching Out project. If you have been considering a donation to the branch project, please don’t think for a minute that your donation is no longer needed! To make our budget projections a number of important parts of the building had to be cut from the final plans. One of the most significant deletions was the Children’s Story Hour Room. The library board had to make the difficult decision that it was better to go forward with a building that lacked a story room than to not build at all. The Story Room is currently shown as an alternate in the construction documents – meaning that if we can raise the necessary funds, or the construction bids come in low (or a combination of both) we will be able to include it. If not, story times will be held in the not-so-kid-friendly large meeting room.
